Michael Karaberidis., Certificate IV in Community Services, Ka Huna Practitioner - Level 5,

Michael Karaberidis. I have been involved with Phoenix Rising Australia since 1992. I first met Graeme O’Brien and his wife Gayle when they were running workshops at Lambton in Newcastle. During this time, I was experiencing a great deal of difficulty with my physical well being and I was looking for alternative treatment other than that from the mainstream medical domain. I was suffering acute back pain which forced me to stop working for a couple of years. Medical treatment could not help my condition.

Through a friend, I met Graeme and was introduced to his workshops. I was very sceptical in the beginning. At the time, my involvement with Christianity and Bible studies were very strong. Graeme & Gail’s workshops challenged all my religious beliefs while at the same time I challenged myself to accept change. After several night time workshops with Graeme, I noticed changes in myself. Positive changes! I was slowly improving.

I gradually became interested in Graeme’s workshops and started dealing with my issues; physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual. My issue with spirituality was challenged. I always tried to connect to that part of myself which I learned so much from religion in an attempt to connect to God through the God within. The workshops taught me other philosophies and other ways to connect to spirituality.

The relationship workshops taught me about relationships, the relationship with myself and the relationships I had with others. I learned that we must revisit our foundations and go back to childhood experiences, deal with past issues, then look at where we are now as matured adults.
As I learned more about Graeme and his workshops, I became inspired to commence training and become a facilitator. The training covered Gestalt therapy, body works, re-birthing, NLP (New Linguistic Programming), and inner child workshops. I studied.

During my study I acquired the following qualifications:-
• Group Facilitator Training Program – Phoenix Rising.
• Ka Huna Practitioner - Level 5.
• Psychosomatic Body and Mind Analysis – Level 1 & 2.
• Accredited Telephone Counselor Stage 1 & 2 – Lifeline.
• Certificate IV in Community Services.
• Licensed builder – since 1976

As I went from workshop to workshop as a facilitator, I gained more knowledge, dealt further with my personal issues no matter how confronting they were, my self worth increased, my self confidence returned and my back pain slowly faded away. I found that I had to deal with my deepest issues and had to continually deal with them to be able to support others. I had to understand my own behavior to be able to understand other people. I also learned that if I didn’t deal with my past issues in life I would form a pattern and would continue to play that pattern for the rest of my life. In awareness we can change our patterns. We refuse to change because we have become comfortable with our old patterns and sometimes it takes a lifetime to change.

On an emotional level, the knowledge and training I acquired gave me strength to make the final decision to complete my marriage. I have become stronger emotionally and I learned how to say NO. Now, I now know myself better and I have accepted who and what I am. I have set myself free and have liberated myself from the bondage of having rules and regulations which I have put on myself. I have released the emotional burden that I carried all my life and can now stand up and be counted.
My interaction with clients in the workshops has changed the way I see myself in relation to daily practice, interpersonal relationships, values, ethics, decision-making processes, and social issues. I find pleasure and fulfillment working with clients and there are many challenges I encountered in supporting these clients. During these very challenging times I found the knowledge and skills I learned through Graeme coupled with the knowledge and skills I already had, to be very supportive. I learned many interpersonal skills and learned how to establish a trusting rapport with clients. My training with Lifeline, telephone counseling and years of voluntary work as a telephone counselor was also very useful. I accepted everyone with no judgment no matter where they were coming from.

All the skills and knowledge that I have acquired regarding human behavior, duty of care and legal responsibilities supports my competent performance as a facilitator in every workshop that I do with Graeme. I have incorporated all the skills I learned, practicing Kahuna massages and I achieved better results in the treatment of my clients. The feedback that I received was very encouraging. My clients receive body work, counseling, regression and NLP all at the same time while having a Kahuna massage. It is a powerful combination. Observing the changes and improvement in my client’s mental, physical and spiritual condition is very fulfilling.

I believe that Phoenix Raising’s workshops are a form of serving the community. In all my learning through workshops, personal experiences and personal studies, I have become stronger as a person and I have developed more compassion and understanding in my support of humanity.
Michael Karaberidis.
